# Withdrawing an Offer and Requesting a Deferral or a Refund

If you accept an offer and then change your mind, you have options, depending on the status of your offer. Here are some examples:

- If the offer status is **Paid**, you could submit a request to defer the offer to another term, or you might be able to withdraw the acceptance and request a refund.
- If the offer status is **Pre-Registered**, you could withdraw the acceptance and request a deferral or a refund.

## Withdraw an Accepted Offer

After you accept an offer, you might decide to withdraw the acceptance. There are a couple of situations in which you might need to withdraw an accepted offer:

- If your application for a Visa or Study Permit is declined, or you will not receive approval in time to start classes, you must notify the institution by withdrawing the acceptance.
- You decide that you are no longer interested in taking that program.

To withdraw an acceptance of an offer:

- On the Offer Details page, select **Withdraw Acceptance**.

![On the Offer details page, the status is Pre-Registered and the Withdraw Acceptance button is outlined in red.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/98c48b39-7164-46f0-8769-e87df43b09f3/Images/Documentation/IAS_Applicant_Withdraw_Acceptance_1_EN.jpg)

- A confirmation message opens; read the information provided and select the **Withdraw Reason** from the list. For example, if your Visa application was declined, select **Visa Rejected**.

![In the Withdraw Acceptance of Offer message, you must select the reason you are withdrawing.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/98c48b39-7164-46f0-8769-e87df43b09f3/Images/Documentation/IAS_Withdraw_Acceptance_2_EN.jpg)

When you withdraw an acceptance of an offer, you might have the option to request a deferral.

- If you want to request a deferral, select **Yes**; then select **Continue** and complete the deferral request. (See [Request a Deferral](/international/docs/requesting-deferrals-or-refunds#request-a-deferral).)

![In the Withdraw Acceptance of Offer message, Accepted Another Offer is the selected reason. For the question "Do you want to request a deferral to a future term?", you can select Yes or No.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/98c48b39-7164-46f0-8769-e87df43b09f3/Images/Documentation/IAS_Withdraw_Acceptance_3_EN.jpg)

- If you do not want a deferral, select **No**. You might have the option to request a refund.
- If you want to request a refund, select **Yes**; then select **Continue** and complete the refund request. (See [Request a Refund](/international/docs/requesting-deferrals-or-refunds#request-a-refund).)

![In this example of a Withdraw Acceptance of Offer message, Visa Delayed is the selected reason. There are details about what you must provide to support that reason. Information about requesting a refund is also displayed.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/98c48b39-7164-46f0-8769-e87df43b09f3/Images/Documentation/IAS_Request_Refund_1_EN.jpg)

- If you select **No** for both options, the Offer status changes to **Withdrawn**.

You might still have the option to request a deferral or refund later from the Offer page.

## Request a Deferral

If you decide not to take the offered program and want to start the program in a later term, you might be able to request a deferral.

- On the Offer Details page, select **Request Deferral**.
- If the offer state is **Paid**, you can request a deferral, withdraw the acceptance, or upload a proof of payment. You can also view the Letter of Acceptance and the Payment Receipt.

![In the Offer Details, the status is Paid and the Request Deferral button is outlined in red.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/98c48b39-7164-46f0-8769-e87df43b09f3/Images/Documentation/IAS_Applicant_Request_Deferral_1_EN.jpg)

- If the offer state is **Pre-Registered**, you must withdraw the acceptance first. The Offer Details page now indicates that the acceptance was withdrawn and provides the option to request a deferral or a refund.
